Recharge Wisedry® Silica Gel Packets Medium Size 20, 50 & 112 Gram

Quick Answer

Most Wisedry 20g, 50g and 112g silica gel packets can be recharged in a microwave or oven until the indicator returns to its dry color. Start with the instructions below, then use the recharge hub for other Wisedry products.

Turn the medium packet recharge instructions into the right amount, recharge route, or product path.

Wisedry® 20g, 50g and 112g medium size silica gel packets are packed by our special fabric that is breathable, tear-resistant and heat-resistant. They can be fast recharged in microwave or oven by heating. The fabric is also transparent enough for the humidity indicating function.

Compared with ordinary non-woven or other desiccant packing material on the market, we use exclusive fabric that’s tougher and more resistant to heat, which gives Wisedry® silica gel packets the advantage of fast recharging in microwave on MID-HIGH POWER instead of DEFROST. The whole recharging process will only take several minutes and the packets can be reused again as new.

Medium Packet Recharge FAQ

Can I recharge 20g, 50g, and 112g packets the same way?

They use the same microwave and oven methods, but heating time depends on packet size, quantity, wattage, and saturation level. Use the matching size tab below instead of copying time from another size.

Should I recharge packets before they are saturated?

No. If the indicator beads are not fully saturated or the packet has not gained enough weight, unnecessary heating can overheat, scorch, or melt the packet. Wait until saturation is clear, or use a shorter controlled cycle if you are unsure.

Why should packets cool before I handle or weigh them?

Freshly recharged packets can be very hot. Cooling protects your hands and gives a more reliable weight check before the packets go back into storage.

Can I recharge several packets at once?

Yes, but spread them in a single layer and do not stack them. Use the timing table for the closest packet size and quantity, then extend carefully only if the indicator color or weight shows they still need more drying.

What if the color or drying performance does not come back?

Let the packets cool, then repeat a short controlled cycle if needed. Replace packets that are damaged, leaking, scorched, or no longer recover after careful recharging.

Safety reminder: keep hot packets away from children, pets, and heat-sensitive surfaces until fully cooled.

Pros & Cons of Different Recharging Methods
– Recharge in Oven: safe, easy to operate, time-consuming;
– Recharge in Microwave: fast, time and energy-saving, more difficult to control the timing, higher risk of failure.

Note: Power & Heat settings may vary between different microwave models. The results will also be affected by the status of the silica gels, so it’s difficult to control the recharging time, which may lead to a higher risk of failure (melted packets). For first-time users, oven is recommended.

Before Recharge

IMPORTANT! Please make sure the silica gels are SATURATED before recharging. When silica gels are not in full saturation, meaning that the water content is lower than suggested, recharging them for the time suggested may lead to overheat and the packets may scorch or melt.

There are two ways to confirm their status:

1. From Colors

When the orange humidity indicating beads fully turn to dark green, it indicates that the desiccants are saturated. Now is the time to recharge.
The white beads don’t change colors.

Wisedry silica gel indicator beads color change

Ordinary silica gel beads are transparent with no changes on shapes or colors when adsorbing, making one unable to confirm their status from appearance. To solve this problem, Wisedry® mixed 10% orange indicating silica gel beads in, serving as easy-to-read indicators that will change to dark green when saturated, enabling users to easily identify when the packet stops working and needs to be recharged/replaced.
Note: The orange silica gels added will not affect the adsorption capacity.

2. From Weight Increase

If you can’t identify the silica gels’ adsorbing status from their colors, use the weighing method to confirm before recharging is recommended.

Wisedry® uses grade A silica gels with moisture adsorption rate up to 35%. The adsorbing process will be slower when silica gels get close to saturation. We suggest recharging them when there is an weight increase of more than 32% compared to their original weight.

  • When a 20-gram silica gel packet weighs up to 26.4 grams, it indicates that it’s close to full saturation. Recharge it for reuse.
  • 20 gram Wisedry silica gel packet weight check

  • When a 50-gram silica gel packet weighs up to 66 grams, it indicates that it’s close to full saturation. Recharge it for reuse.
  • 50 gram Wisedry silica gel packet weight check

  • When a 112-gram silica gel packet weighs up to 148 grams, it indicates that it’s close to full saturation. Recharge it for reuse.
  • 112 gram Wisedry silica gel packet weight check

Method 1 – Recharge in Microwave

    Step 1: Set Power on MID-HIGH / 80

Step 2: Put the packets into microwave

For best results, spread the packets evenly in microwave directly without any plates or dishes.

    Caution:

If your microwave uses a glass turntable, make sure it’s made of high temperature resistant thick glass. Otherwise, remove it before recharging or damage may occur.

    Step 3: Set time

    20g x 5 packs (for reference):
    700W – 3mins/side ( 3mins + 3mins )
    1000W – 2.5mins/side ( 2.5mins + 2.5mins )

    50g x 2 packs (for reference):
    700W: 50g x 2 packs – 2mins/side ( 2mins + 2mins )
    1000W: 50g x 2 packs – 2mins/side ( 2mins + 2mins )

    50g x 4 packs (for reference)
    700W: 50g x 4 packs – 4mins/side ( 4mins + 4mins )
    1000W: 50g x 4 packs – 3.5mins/side ( 3.5mins + 3.5mins )

    112g x 1 pack (for reference)
    700W: 112g x 1 pack – 3.5mins/side ( 3.5mins + 3.5mins )
    1000W: 112g x 1 pack – 3.5mins/side ( 3.5mins + 3.5mins )

    112g x 2 packs (for reference)
    700W: 112g x 2 packs – 5.5mins/side ( 5.5mins + 5.5mins )
    1000W: 112g x 2 packs – 4.5mins/side ( 4.5mins + 4.5mins )

If the above suggested time fails to have them fully recharged, add 30s-60s until the green beads fully restore to orange.
For microwaves of other outputs, please adjust the time accordingly.

If the turntable of your microwave is thin and immovable, we suggest using an OVEN instead.

Method 2 – Recharge in Oven

    Step 1: Set temperature at 120℃/ 250℉

Step 2: Put the packets into oven

Spread the packets evenly in a suitable container. A shallow metal baking sheet is recommended.

    Step 3: Set time

    For reference
    20g x 5 packs: 20-25mins/side (40-50mins in total)
    20g x 12 packs: 45-50mins/side (90-100mins in total)

    For reference
    50g x 4 packs: 45mins/side (90mins in total)
    50g x 6 packs: 60mins/side (120mins in total)
    50g x 10 packs: 70mins/side (140mins in total)

    For reference
    112g x 2 packs: 50mins/side (100mins in total)
    112g x 4 packs: 70mins/side (140mins in total)

If the above suggested time fails to have them fully recharged, add 5-10mins until the indicating beads fully restore to orange OR the packets weigh back to around their original weights.
If you can’t be certain if they are completely saturated, recharge for shorter time to avoid overheat.

    TIPS

    • Do not recharge if the colored beads are not totally dark green.
    • Do not overheat the packets.
    • After recharge, the silica gel packets will be very HOT. Do not touch with bare hands. Wait until the packets cool down.
    • After repeated drying, the orange beads will lose indicating function by changing to other colors instead of dark green, but the humidity adsorbing function remains.
      * Use the weighing method to confirm their saturation status when needed.
    • After repeated drying, the packing material may get damaged. If so, please throw away.
